According to the culture ministry, a state media channel in Poland was removed from broadcast on Wednesday, December 20 by the new government in order to reinstate “impartiality”.
After the pro-European Union coalition led by Donald Tusk gained control last week from the Law and Justice (PiS) party, which has been accused of harming judicial autonomy and using state-owned media for propaganda.
A video clip depicts Adrian Borecki, a news anchor for TVP, interrupting a program to inform viewers that the Polish media had been “seized.”
The decision was made following a resolution passed by Poland’s new parliament on Tuesday, which aimed to restore impartiality in public media.
