The minister has confirmed that by 2025, there will be new technology implemented to scan individuals for knives in public locations.

Chris Philp, the minister in charge of policing, has expressed his desire for officers to have access to technology that can detect knives on individuals in public areas by 2025.

Mr. Philp discussed the UK government’s recent measures to address knife crime during his appearance on GB News on Thursday, January 25th.

He mentioned that they are currently making investments in the Home Office for new technology. Although it is not yet ready to be used, he hopes it will be within a year. This technology will allow for people to be scanned for knives while walking down busy streets, in order to reduce the number of knives on the streets.
