The judge presiding over Donald Trump’s civil fraud case has revoked his approval for the ex-president to deliver his own closing remarks.
According to reports, Mr. Trump intended to make a closing statement during his New York fraud trial on Thursday with the assistance of his legal team.
The state’s attorney general, Letitia James, has filed a $250 million civil case against the 45th president, accusing him of committing fraud in his real estate business over a number of years.
Mr. Trump recently appeared at the Court of Appeals in Washington DC for a hearing regarding his plea for presidential immunity. He is hoping that this will result in the dismissal of his case for interfering in the January 6 election.
The three judges on the panel seemed doubtful of his assertion that he is protected from prosecution as a former commander-in-chief, as arguments were made.
A statement made by Mr. Trump’s lawyer caused surprise when they proposed that a president should not be able to face legal charges unless they have been impeached and convicted, even if they are accused of ordering a competitor’s assassination by the US military.

The judge in charge of Donald Trump’s trial for civil fraud in New York has taken back the authorization for the former president to make closing statements on Thursday. This decision was made after his lawyers could not reach an agreement on appropriate and fair limitations for his statements.
Based on email correspondence between Judge Arthur Engoron and lawyers involved in the case, as stated in a court document filed on Wednesday, the judge has granted permission for Mr. Trump to make remarks, as long as he limits his discussion to “pertinent and substantiated facts.”
The judge stated in a court filing on January 5th that he is not allowed to testify or make comments on unrelated issues, according to attorneys.
According to Judge Engoron, Mr. Trump is forbidden from making a campaign speech or making negative remarks about the judge, court staff, and attorneys.
Lawyer Christopher Kise responded that he does not consent to those conditions.
The judge informed him that the conditions were not open for discussion.
After Mr Trump’s mother-in-law passed away, the judge postponed the decision deadline until 11am on Wednesday. Mr Kise deemed the conditions to be unjust.
“I will not allow any more extensions,” the judge responded sternly on Wednesday.
Trump’s reaction
He will not be present on the stage, but Mr. Trump cannot resist participating in the action.
Prior to the governor’s official announcement of his candidacy, he consistently launched attacks against Mr. DeSantis, ultimately derailing his campaign upon its launch.
Recently, Mr. Trump has been frequently criticizing Ms. Haley. It remains to be seen if this has a similar impact. Due to her previous role as US ambassador to the United Nations under his administration, Ms. Haley has attempted to avoid directly targeting Mr. Trump. On the other hand, Mr. DeSantis has been more direct in his attacks on Mr. Trump in recent weeks.
However, it is probable that President Trump will reject notions that he is contemplating Ms Haley as a potential running mate.

According to a CNN/University of New Hampshire poll, she was trailing Mr Trump by single digits in New Hampshire. However, a Boston Globe/Suffolk University/USA Today poll revealed a 19-point gap between her and Mr Trump in the same state.
However, Ms Haley’s statements in New Hampshire, where she declined to acknowledge slavery as the cause of the Civil War, have sparked intense backlash. Even President Trump described her words as “false and misleading.” Furthermore, she has come under fire for changing her stance and not being assertive enough on the issue of abortion.
Furthermore, there are lingering doubts about whether she truly poses a viable threat to Mr. Trump since she has not surpassed him in any polls. Mr. DeSantis, whose campaign quickly lost momentum after its launch, has publicly criticized her on TV and in previous debates.
Mr. DeSantis is likely to directly inquire if she would agree to serve as Mr. Trump’s vice president.
Dealing with Donald Trump
Despite the desire of both candidates to ignore his existence, Mr. Trump cannot be disregarded.
Since the most recent 2023 discussion, the Colorado Supreme Court has determined that Mr Trump cannot be included on the 2024 voting ballot. He has also made inflammatory remarks about immigrants and wished for his opponents to suffer in a Christmas message. On Tuesday, his attorney attempted to make the case to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit that a former president cannot face criminal charges for ordering the assassination of a political opponent.
In general, instead of using his legal battles to showcase their own suitability for office, his Republican rivals have consistently ended up defending him in illogical and nonsensical ways, which does not effectively support their own candidacy.
Despite their slim chances of success, they continue to pursue this course in hopes of gaining support from his followers. Mr. DeSantis has alluded to the possibility of finding a means to remove President Joe Biden from Florida’s ballot. This scenario is just as improbable as impeaching and convicting Mr. Biden in Congress. Nevertheless, it highlights the dilemma faced by Republican candidates when it comes to Mr. Trump.
The way in which they move around Mr. Trump will provide insight into the current dynamic between the GOP and its connection with Mr. Trump and his supporters.
