The latest updates report that the first hurricane wind warning has been issued in California, resulting in a blackout for over 127,000 people.

A strong weather pattern known as an atmospheric river is headed towards Southern California.

The initial alert for hurricane-strength winds was declared in northern California on Sunday morning as the dangerous atmospheric river hit the state.

Strong winds reaching speeds of 90mph are predicted near Big Sur, potentially accompanied by tornadoes and water spouts along the central coast.

The state was preparing for weeks worth of rainfall over the coming few days, raising the threat of dangerous flooding and mudslides. Los Angeles could see 15 inches of rainfall through Wednesday, forecasters said.

On Sunday morning, over 127,000 individuals in the state were experiencing power outages. In the past 24 hours, an excess of 12 inches of snow has been recorded in the northwestern region of Lake Tahoe.

The National Weather Service has reported that heavy rainfall will be shifting from San Francisco Bay and the Central coast within the next 24 hours. This will increase the risk of significant flash floods, as well as urban and small stream flooding. There is also a potential for river flooding.

According to Accuweather, approximately 94% of the population in California faces the possibility of flooding.

and the Northwest over the next couple of days.

A new storm, similar to the ‘Pineapple Express’, is predicted to hit California and the Northwest within the next few days.

A potentially hazardous storm known as the “Pineapple Express” was predicted to strike California on Saturday evening, posing a risk of floods and landslides in the following days.

On Friday and Saturday, residents of California were getting ready for what experts predict could be the biggest storm of the year. The most severe effects are anticipated to occur in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties on Sunday and Monday. By Saturday afternoon, a majority of the state was under various warnings for high winds, ocean waves, or potential flooding.

This week, the state will experience another round of severe weather as an atmospheric river, a lengthy strip of moisture originating from the Pacific, hits for the second time. The initial occurrence took place in the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday, causing heavy rain and snow that disrupted cable car operations before moving down to Los Angeles and San Diego on Thursday.

During the previous winter season, California experienced severe weather events known as atmospheric rivers, which brought heavy rainfall, high waves, and record-breaking snowfall. These events caused significant flooding, damaged coastal communities, and resulted in multiple fatalities.

and potential floods

A second strong storm arrives in California, prompting alerts for winds as strong as a hurricane and the possibility of flooding.

On Sunday, California prepared for the most severe impacts of a potentially hazardous storm that could bring hurricane-level winds and lead to floods and landslides as it travels along the coast in the coming days.

On Saturday, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown informed reporters that this storm is expected to be one of the biggest and most impactful in our county’s history. Our objective is to make it through without any deaths or major injuries.

Evacuation alerts and mandates were implemented for Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Ventura, and Monterey counties. On Monday, classes were called off for schools in Santa Barbara County.

The “Pineapple Express” storm, named for its long stretch of moisture reaching back to near Hawaii, hit Northern California on Saturday while the majority of the state was under a wind, surf, or flood watch.

On Sunday morning, the National Weather Service released an uncommon “warning for hurricane force winds” for the Central Coast. Wind gusts of up to 92 mph (148 kph) were expected from the Monterey Peninsula to the northern part of San Luis Obispo County.

The forecast predicted that the storm would travel south along the coast and bring heavy rain, flash flooding, and snow in high-elevation mountains to Los Angeles on Sunday. On Monday, it was expected to severely impact Orange County and San Diego. Southern California can anticipate moderate to heavy rainfall until Tuesday.

The National Weather Service predicted that Southern California’s coastal and valley regions could receive up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain, while the foothills and mountains could see up to 12 inches (31 centimeters). As a result, there is a risk of mudslides, debris flows, and flooding.

California has recently experienced a second occurrence of an atmospheric river, which is a continuous stream of moisture formed over the Pacific. The initial instance affected the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday, resulting in intense rain and significant snowfall that caused the suspension of cable car operations before moving south along the coast.

The flash flood warning has been expanded to encompass downtown Los Angeles.

The warning for flash flooding now encompasses downtown Los Angeles.

According to Fox Weather, the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) of NOAA stated that the previous forecast has been updated to include a higher risk area that extends further eastward into the eastern parts of the Transverse Range. This is due to the longer duration of upslope flow in these areas compared to those farther west.

They also included the entire southern region of Los Angeles County in the high risk area, extending southward from the Transverse Range, after coordinating with the National Weather Service office in Los Angeles.

The WPC stated that there is a potential for dangerous flash floods in urban areas in the high risk zone.
