The biggest cruise ship in the world is preparing to embark on its journey.
On January 27, 2024, Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, the ‘Icon of the Seas’, sets sail for its inaugural voyage.
This will surpass the ‘Wonder of the Seas’, another Royal Caribbean cruise ship which is currently the largest in the world.
The ship Icon of the Seas boasts 18 levels for passengers, seven pools, and an impressive selection of 40 dining and drinking options. It has a capacity of 5,610 guests and a total weight of 250,800 gross tons.
The extravagant vessel also showcases eight designated “neighborhoods,” each offering unique activities, entertainment, and dining options. In an effort to set new records, these neighborhoods boast several groundbreaking features: Thrill Island boasts the biggest water park on a cruise ship, the first free-fall slide in the open sea, and the tallest drop slide in the industry.
The vessel also includes Chill Island, which offers pools with ocean views and a bar serving frozen cocktails. Additionally, The Hideaway boasts the world’s first suspended infinity pool on a ship, along with a multi-level sun deck, whirlpools, and a beach bar.
Other neighbourhoods include The Hideaway, Surfside and Aquadome, with its own AquaTheater.
The cruise caters to families, featuring the addition of the new Family Infinite Balcony and the Surfside Family Suite. The Ultimate Family Townhouse, equipped with a mailbox and iconic white picket fence, is also available.
The Icon of the Seas will be departing from Miami for seven-night voyages throughout the year, with each trip including a stop at CocoCay in The Bahamas. This vessel will also be the first in the company to use fuel cell technology and run on liquified natural gas, a clean and efficient fuel source, making it their most eco-friendly ship yet.
Michael Bayley, the head of Royal Caribbean International, stated, “Icon of the Seas represents our dedication to providing unforgettable experiences and is our latest promise to those who enjoy vacationing. In today’s world, individuals are placing a greater emphasis on bonding and creating their own adventures with loved ones.”
