Heavy rainfall and flooding in California are causing disruptions for travelers preparing for the Christmas holidays.
The National Weather Service predicts that residents of Los Angeles County will experience at least 12 inches of rain by Friday.
Flights experienced delays at Los Angeles International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and Hollywood Burbank Airport on Thursday. The majority of the delays were observed in Northern California.
The storm began in Northern California and moved south over the course of the week. Santa Barbara and Ventura counties are currently under a flood watch until Friday. Numerous roads in Oxnard, located in Ventura County, are still inundated. Authorities have issued a warning about possible power outages.
On Wednesday night, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office instructed residents in Port Hueneme, a seaside town bordered by Oxnard and the Santa Barbara Channel, to evacuate due to excessive rainfall.
Authorities recommended that citizens avoid traveling on city roads until the water subsides. The precipitation is predicted to continue its journey south until Friday and eventually reach Phoenix, Arizona. The region is presently under a flood warning from Friday until Saturday.
The American Automobile Association predicts that approximately 115 individuals in the United States will be traveling during the 10-day year-end holiday period.
