The head of Hezbollah stated that the organization “cannot remain quiet” following the assassination of a Hamas deputy leader in Lebanon.
On Tuesday, a drone strike in Beirut resulted in the death of Saleh al-Arouri. Israel has not acknowledged or denied involvement in the killing.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah stated that his heavily armed forces will engage in combat until the end if Israel decides to expand the conflict from Gaza to Lebanon.
During a broadcasted address in Beirut, Mr Nasrallah denounced the assassination of Arouri as a significant and perilous act. He also declared that Hezbollah would have no limits or restrictions in their combat actions if Israel were to declare war on Lebanon.
He stated that anyone who considers going to war with us will ultimately regret it. Should a war be initiated against Lebanon, our national interests dictate that we fully engage in the conflict until the end.
According to Mr. Nasrallah, Hezbollah has been cautious in its strategic planning during the conflict, considering both their support for Gaza and the interests of Lebanon. However, if Israel were to initiate a war with Lebanon, the group is prepared for an unrestricted fight.
The Israeli military continued their air and ground attacks on Hamas fighters in Gaza and urged civilians to evacuate a refugee camp located in the northern part of the Palestinian territory.
According to a spokesperson for the military, Israeli forces are currently highly prepared and ready for any potential situation.
The assassination of Arouri was further evidence that the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which had been going on for almost three months, was extending beyond Gaza and involving the Israeli-controlled West Bank, Hezbollah troops on the border between Lebanon and Israel, and even shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
57-year-old Arouri, a resident of Beirut, was the initial high-ranking figure of Hamas to be killed outside of Palestinian territories. This occurred during Israel’s attack on the Palestinian Islamist organization in retaliation for their destructive actions in Gaza and Israeli towns on October 7th.
Since the start of the Gaza conflict, Hezbollah, a close associate of Hamas, has been engaged in frequent shelling confrontations with Israel along the southern border of Lebanon.
According to two security sources, a Hezbollah leader and three other individuals from the Iran-linked organization were killed in a southern Lebanon attack by Israel on Wednesday night.
The attack resulted in the killing of nine Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, marking one of the most fatal days for the group since it first engaged in cross-border conflict with Israel in October.
In 2006, there was a significant war between Hezbollah and Israel which resulted in a stalemate. Experts believe that Hezbollah has since become a stronger military power, possessing numerous rockets, missiles, and other powerful weapons.
