The remains of a young female were discovered in a garbage compactor located in the basement of an upscale apartment building in Manhattan.
According to the New York Post, the disturbing finding was uncovered at the +Art facility in West Chelsea at approximately 2:40pm on Friday.
The structure at 540 West 28th Street is situated just half a block away from the High Line. According to sources from the NYPD who spoke to the Post, the victim, estimated to be in her 30s, was discovered with injuries to her head and evidence of physical assault on her body.
The source reported that a resident was informed by the doorman that a building maintenance worker discovered the body while disposing of garbage.
“I am filled with sympathy for that person,” the anonymous resident expressed. “When we inquired about the situation, all they told us was that a body was found … It is quite concerning since we reside here.”
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the woman, as well as the details surrounding her death.
The Independent has contacted the NYPD.
On Friday night, there was a significant number of law enforcement officers at the hotel. They were gathering evidence from the scene with the help of crime scene investigators.
