Police have received reports of Prince Andrew’s involvement with the deceased convicted child abuser Jeffrey Epstein, after court papers mentioned allegations of sexual assault.
Republic, an activist group against monarchy, has filed a complaint with the Metropolitan Police.
The group urged the Met Police to take action and resume their inquiries.
Millionaire financier Epstein, who socialised with royalty and celebrities, was accused of running a large network of underage girls for sex. While awaiting trial, he killed himself in his jail cell in 2019.
Under the direction of a judge, forty-five legal records, comprising of numerous pages of interviews and transcriptions, have been unsealed in a legal case filed against Epstein by one of his victims, Virginia Giuffre.
The case was resolved in 2017, however, the records remained hidden or edited, hiding the names of over 100 individuals who were involved with Epstein, referred to as “J Doe” and assigned a unique identifying number.
Additional names will be disclosed in the upcoming days as the records are further examined.
The papers mention the Duke of York over 70 times, with claims that he participated in an orgy with minors and inappropriately touched a woman’s breast while holding a puppet resembling himself.
Andrew, age 63, has strongly denied any wrongdoing and reached a financial settlement outside of court, without admitting guilt, with Ms. Giuffre. She had accused him of sexual assault when she was 17.
In 2022, he was removed from his military positions and requested to resign as a functioning member of the royal family due to the surfacing accusations.
In October 2021, the Metropolitan Police declared that they completed their examination of Ms. Giuffre’s allegations in the American civil case and will not pursue any further measures.
However, Graham Smith, the CEO of Republic, requested that the King issue a public statement and hold a press conference to address the issue.
He urged Members of Parliament to discuss the allegations in Parliament.
He stated that until now, there has been no thorough examination of potential criminal activity, no questioning of the accused or any other individuals, and no evident reasoning for the lack of action.
“How can we anticipate no reply from the government and leader? During the supposed crimes, Andrew held positions as a trade ambassador for the government and was also an involved member of the royal family.”
“They manipulated and concealed the truth for 11 years before finally taking concrete steps.”
Mr. Smith posed the query: If the accused were someone else, would they have been subject to investigation and prosecution?
During his tenure as a trade representative from 2001 to 2011, the Duke gained the moniker “Airmiles Andy” due to his frequent use of private aircraft and helicopters, involvement in international business ventures, and connections with contentious leaders and entrepreneurs.
The Metropolitan Police and the Duke’s representatives have been asked for a statement.
