Thames Water is removing sewage that has overflowed into residential properties and gardens.

On Wednesday (January 10), a tanker removed extra sewage from the Lightlands Lane pumping station in Cookham, Berkshire, in response to reports from residents of a flooded village that sewage had leaked into their homes and gardens.

Due to heavy rain, the pumping station was flooded.

Thames Water, a water company, has issued an apology to the residents.

The company released a statement explaining that due to heavy rain, the flood defences near Lightlands Lane Sewage Pumping Station were unable to handle the excess water. As a result, the site flooded and sewage could not be pumped away from nearby properties. The engineers will work to make repairs as soon as it is safe to do so.
