Rishi Sunak plans to make law and order a major focus of the upcoming election through a set of actions outlined in the King’s Speech. These measures aim to increase the severity of punishments for murderers, rapists, and leaders of grooming gangs.
The Prime Minister has prioritized criminal justice laws in the King’s Speech, which outlines the Government’s agenda for the upcoming session of Parliament, with a general election anticipated in 2024.
The proposal will fulfill previous announcements that state individuals convicted of the most abhorrent homicides should anticipate whole life orders, resulting in their permanent incarceration. Additionally, individuals convicted of rape and other severe sexual offenses will not be granted early release from their prison sentences.
Additional actions may involve granting police the authority to conduct a search of a premises without a warrant in order to confiscate stolen items, such as cell phones, if they have sufficient evidence that a particular stolen item is located within.
This could involve utilizing the built-in GPS tracking feature of a device to guide law enforcement to its hidden location.
The Prime Minister expressed a desire for all citizens to feel proud and secure in their communities, where they are raising their families and sending their children to school. This is the vision for a better Britain.
“Due to the efforts of this administration, there has been a decrease in crime. However, we must continue to work towards improving and making long-term decisions that benefit our country, including longer sentences for the most dangerous criminals.”

Experienced members of the Conservative party believe that prioritizing traditional Conservative policies and fulfilling promises outlined in Boris Johnson’s 2019 manifesto will aid Mr. Sunak in his efforts to surpass Labour’s lead in opinion polls.
Mr. Sunak’s supporters also hold the belief that Sir Keir Starmer’s previous role as director of public prosecutions, before he became the leader of the Labour party, could actually be a vulnerability rather than the strength that he portrays it to be.
A source from within the UK government suggested in 2010 that they were considering implementing a similar system to the US, which includes both first and second degree murder charges. The latter charge may not result in a mandatory life sentence.
The upcoming Criminal Justice Bill will incorporate highly publicized measures to allow the use of appropriate force to bring offenders to court and face their victims during sentencing. Failure to comply may result in an additional two years added to their prison sentence.
This will also result in being a part of a grooming gang being considered an aggravating factor during sentencing, leading to harsher penalties for those in leadership roles and those involved.
The Sentencing Bill will result in a life sentence being given in the most severe murder cases, but judges may choose to give a shorter sentence in rare situations.
The law will guarantee that rapists and individuals convicted of serious sexual offenses complete their entire sentence in prison without being let out early on parole.
The proposed Victims and Prisoners Bill would grant government officials the authority to deny parole and prohibit marriage for the most serious offenders who are incarcerated.
The Amendment to the Investigatory Powers Bill will modernize the laws governing the utilization of investigative powers by British intelligence and law enforcement entities in order to adapt to advancements in technology.
The possibility of extending prison sentences has arisen due to the current strain on the prison system. Last month, ministers were compelled to take action and release certain less serious offenders up to 18 days earlier in order to free up space.
The Government has committed to constructing the largest prison expansion plan in the past century, resulting in the addition of more than 20,000 new spaces.

The King’s Speech also includes plans for a law that would require yearly licensing for oil and gas activities in the North Sea, which is a major point of disagreement with the Labour party.
The address may also propose a legislation that would prohibit individuals under the age of 14 from purchasing cigarettes or tobacco products in England, as pledged by Mr. Sunak at the Conservative conference.
Rishi Sunak acknowledges the need for change in the country, but this administration is unable to bring about that change.
Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, has called on the government to take action and quickly address the issues with the NHS system.
Plans to “phase out” leaseholds will be in the King’s Speech, while the Renters Reform Bill will return although the commitment to ban “no fault” evictions has been watered down.
This will mark Charles’ first time officially opening Parliament, although he previously gave the Queen’s Speech in 2022 on behalf of his mother during her reign as Elizabeth II.

Even Rishi Sunak acknowledges that change is necessary, but this administration is incapable of implementing it.
