Storm Isha live: 90mph winds batter the UK as thousands are left without power

The United Kingdom’s towns are blanketed in snow and ice as a frigid blast persists, causing travel disruptions.

Due to the impending arrival of Storm Isha, the UK is expected to experience flight and train cancellations, as well as a tornado warning being issued for today.

According to ScotRail, all trains leaving after 7pm on Sunday will be cancelled, and there will be no rush hour trains on Monday morning.

Avanti West Coast issued a warning to train passengers on Sunday, advising them to only travel if absolutely necessary. The storm also resulted in the cancellation of numerous flights, including 38 from British Airways.

The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (Torro) has issued a warning about the possibility of several tornadoes in Northern Ireland and Scotland, with the former facing a heightened risk of a powerful tornado.

“Within and near the designated watch zone, there is a possibility of a few tornadoes. The significant wind shear increases the potential for a powerful tornado, particularly in the regions of RoI and N Ireland,” states the advisory.

According to Torro, the tornado has the potential to bring gusts of 100mph or more, even in areas further inland.

The Met Office has issued seven weather warnings for the entire country today, including two rare “danger to life” amber alerts.

The UK will set a new record with three additional named storms.

Isha Storm is the ninth storm to be named in the UK during the current season, which started in September.

Every storm is assigned a name when it becomes threatening to individuals. The names are chosen in alphabetical order, starting with consecutive letters.

In 2015/16, the Met Office started keeping track of named storms and the highest number recorded in a single year was 11, with Storm Katie being the last one of the season.

If three additional named storms occur between next week and August, this year will set a new record.

There have been 19 flood warnings and 17 flood alerts issued in Scotland.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has released 19 flood alerts in different regions of Scotland.

The organization has released 17 flood advisories in various regions of Scotland, which are not as serious as flood warnings.

According to Janine Hensman, the flood duty manager at Sepa, it is important to stay informed about current local warnings for your area.

Our three-day forecast for potential flooding in Scotland predicts expected conditions in the future. Stay updated with Met Office for weather-related impacts.

Strong winds, high tides, and large waves may cause wave overtopping and flooding on causeways, promenades, properties, and roads along the southern and western coasts. Be cautious on exposed coasts.

“We have released flood alerts and warnings for our region due to heavy precipitation of rain and snow earlier this week. Our team is in constant communication with the Met Office to closely monitor the current conditions.”

ScotRail has halted services in order to prioritize the safety of both their employees and customers.

“The severe wind and continuous rainfall across the country make it unsafe for both our customers and staff. As a result, all ScotRail train services will be halted starting at 7:00 PM tonight.”

While we recognize the potential impact on customers, our top priority is the safety of both our staff and passengers. This measure is necessary to ensure everyone’s well-being during the severe weather.

Our coworkers at Network Rail Scotland will be working diligently overnight and into the morning to conduct safety evaluations and determine necessary repairs for the railway to be reopened.

Unfortunately, customers will not be able to travel on Monday morning due to the fact that trains cannot run until the infrastructure is deemed safe.

“We will provide updates on our website, mobile app, and social media platforms as more information becomes available. Customers are advised to check for the most recent updates before traveling tomorrow.”
