On Thursday evening, US Senator Chris Coons shared a selfie with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who he jokingly referred to as his “lookalike,” taken at the German ambassador’s residence in Washington.
According to DPA, Mr Coons, a 60-year-old Democrat from Delaware, had dinner with Mr Scholz and other US Congress members. The two politicians have noticeable similarities in their facial features, height, and hairstyles.
They had previously encountered each other at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland last year.
“Mr. Scholz, formerly known as Twitter user X, expressed his pleasure in seeing his lookalike once more.”
“Who is who?” wrote Mr. Coons on X, located on the left side of the photo.
Mr. Scholz advocated for additional assistance from the US and Europe for Ukraine as he embarked on a trip to Washington on Thursday. He stated that it is crucial to send a strong message to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the West will continue to stand by Kyiv.
Mr. Scholz is scheduled to have a meeting with President Joe Biden. This meeting follows a delay in providing aid to Ukraine due to Republican opposition in the Senate. A bipartisan border package that included the aid was blocked, and efforts to find a solution to provide aid to Kyiv have been challenging for Republicans.
Despite facing a domestic budget crisis, Germany is increasing its support for Ukraine by allocating over £7bn ($7.5bn) for weapons deliveries this year.
