Kyiv experienced its biggest drone attack ever from Russia, resulting in five people being injured.
The mayor of a city in southern Russia, located near the Ukrainian border, has announced a state of emergency due to a drone attack allegedly launched by Kyiv. The attack caused damage to multiple buildings and resulted in the injury of a child.
The mayor of Voronezh City, Vadim Kstenin, stated that a drone attack caused damage to approximately 30 apartments overnight. According to a report on Telegram by Russian news outlet Shot, 15 explosions were heard near an air base near the city. Some debris from the drones fell onto an apartment building nearby. The governor of Voronezh shared footage of the building that was hit.
The MoD of Russia stated that they successfully eliminated five drones in the area, located approximately 170 miles away from the Ukrainian border, and also intercepted three additional drones.
Kstenin stated that he is asking the citizens of Voronezh not to be concerned, as the state of emergency is being implemented to facilitate prompt decision-making. Alexander Gusev, the governor of the area, reported that an 11-year-old girl was harmed in the incident.
There has been no response from Ukraine regarding the attack. Russian media reports that the air base near Voronezh City is home to several Sukhoi Su-34 bombers. The Kremlin frequently utilizes fighter-bombers in their airstrikes against Ukraine.
The foreign minister of Ukraine contemplates the idea of ‘striking’ Russia’s Lavrov.
In a recently released interview, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed that there were moments when he wanted to physically confront his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov during discussions at the beginning of Moscow’s invasion.
During a casual hour-long interview with a Ukrainian video blogger, Mr. Kuleba briefly discussed various topics such as cooking, hobbies, and Ukrainian soccer.
During a series of quick questions, Mr. Kuleba was asked about his most challenging negotiating experience. He responded, “The toughest negotiations are the ones where you feel like punching your counterpart in the face, but you can’t actually do that.”
“I can confirm this happened on two or three occasions. One time was when I was with Lavrov in Antalya, Turkey in the spring of 2022.”
Ukrainian and Russian negotiators met for several rounds of talks in the early weeks after the February 2022 invasion — first near Ukraine‘s border with Belarus and later in Turkey.
During the discussions in Turkey, Mr. Kuleba mentioned that they were challenging and focused on establishing a ceasefire and organizing humanitarian passages. However, no resolution was reached during those talks and there have been no further negotiations.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, refuses to engage in discussions with Moscow until Russian troops have been removed from the roughly 20% of Ukraine that they currently occupy. According to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, Russia is open to negotiations, but has promised to continue their “special military operation” as deemed necessary.
According to Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry in Moscow, Ukraine’s leadership demonstrates incompetence through Mr Kuleba’s recent statements.
Zakharova expressed concern that uneducated and aggressive individuals were hired as ministers under the pretense of helping Ukraine, when their true intention was to manipulate the country for financial gain from America. This statement was made to the newspaper Izvestia.
“Maybe he would be better suited for a no-holds-barred fight instead of serving in the foreign ministry?”
The Kremlin reports that Ukraine has launched a drone strike on Voronezh, Russia.
Russia’s air defence systems destroyed three Ukraine-launched drones over the southwestern region of Voronezh that borders Ukraine, the Russian defence ministry said on Tuesday on its Telegram messaging channel.
The governor of the area, Alexander Gusev, reported on his Telegram channel that initial investigations showed no injuries or fatalities. However, there were reports of broken windows in multiple apartment complexes and homes in Voronezh, the main city of the region.
Ukraine has not yet released a statement in response. In recent months, Kyiv has increased its aerial strikes, claiming they are targeting Russian military facilities in an effort to weaken Moscow’s involvement in the conflict.
According to Russian media, there is an air base near the city of Voronezh where a number of Sukhoi Su-34 bombers are stationed. These fighter-bomber aircraft are frequently used by Russia during their air attacks on Ukraine.
According to the Russian news source Shot, there were at least 15 explosions heard near the air base and pieces of a drone fell onto an apartment building in the vicinity.
The video shown below was initially shared on the messaging platform Telegram by the regional news source Voronezh No. 1.
