The monarch commemorated his 75th birthday by engaging in conversation with numerous NHS nurses at Buckingham Palace.
Charles held an event in the heart of London to showcase the contributions of nurses and midwives throughout the years as part of the NHS 75 anniversary.
Around 400 nurses and midwives from different parts of the NHS attended the event, including the newly appointed Health Secretary, Victoria Atkins, after the Cabinet reshuffle on Monday.
The King made an effort to greet numerous guests and the crowd surrounding Charles was often so thick that it reached up to five people deep as he navigated through the ballroom.
He seemed to be having a good time as he walked around the room, cracking jokes and expressing gratitude to the nurses for their efforts.
Charles received a birthday card from a six-year-old girl who shares the same birthday as him.
At the age of 36, Sandra Stephens presented the letter to the King, acting on behalf of her daughter Isabella.
She mentioned that it’s her daughter’s birthday today, so her daughter wrote a letter to him and I gave him the letter.
The message read: “Greetings, King. Do you recognize me? I am Isabella and today is my birthday, so happy birthday to you as well.”
After a quick glance at the letter, I inquired, “Would you be willing to receive this letter?” He replied, “Absolutely.” His demeanor was exceptionally amiable.
Charles took a break to practice speaking Swahili with a nurse from Kenya.
Bernice Boore, 47 years old, had the opportunity to speak to the King at a reception last month. She expressed her appreciation for the King remembering their previous conversation.
”
“We discussed Kenya and I inquired about his experience on his recent visit.”
“Next, we discussed Swahili vocabulary. He seemed knowledgeable in Swahili, which was very intriguing.”
The Health Secretary was welcomed by the King at the beginning of the occasion. Upon conversing with Charles, Ms Atkins expressed, “It is truly remarkable to conclude this part of the day by being in Buckingham Palace with His Majesty the King and honoring the exceptional individuals who serve in our NHS.”
“I believe it is truly admirable for His Majesty to demonstrate his gratitude, and consequently ours, for their efforts in caring for us.”
When questioned about whether the King offered his congratulations on her new position, Ms Atkins responded, “He displayed the welcoming, kind, and friendly demeanor one would expect.”
The monarch was pleasantly surprised with a rendition of Happy Birthday sung by the NHS choir, and many attendees in the ballroom joined in before he departed.
