Officials reported that a road accident involving a truck and a van in Wisconsin on Friday resulted in the death of nine individuals and only one survivor.
A collision involving a passenger van and a tractor-trailer truck occurred at 7:53 am in Dewhurst Township, Wisconsin. The incident took place on state highway 95, approximately 322 km (200 miles) northwest of Milwaukee, the largest city in the state.
According to a post on Facebook by the Clark County Sheriff’s office, there were a total of nine individuals in the van. Unfortunately, eight of these individuals, including the driver, lost their lives at the scene.
The driver of the truck, who was the sole occupant, was declared deceased at the location.
The only person who survived the crash, a passenger in the van, was transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Initial findings from the sheriff’s department indicate that a van headed northbound entered an intersection and was hit by a semi truck traveling eastbound.
According to aerial footage, there was a deadly accident on Highway 95 in Wisconsin.
Local authorities reported that all individuals involved were travelers passing through, not residents of the immediate area.
“The investigation is currently ongoing,” stated the sheriff’s department.
Tony Evers, the governor of Wisconsin, expressed his and his wife’s sadness over the tragic accident.
“We extend our sympathy and thoughts to the families and loved ones of those involved, as well as the first responders who acted swiftly to offer assistance at the location,” stated Mr. Evers.
The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed at this time in order to inform their loved ones first.
The photographs of the crash scene showed significant destruction to both of the involved vehicles.
The damaged van can be observed lying on its side and showing signs of fire damage, while the front of the truck appears to be significantly harmed.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, this is the second most fatal accident in the history of Wisconsin, resulting in nine fatalities.
In 2002, the worst car accident in the state’s history took place on a foggy day, resulting in the death of 10 individuals due to a 45-car pileup.
