The country of Nepal has requested that Russia cease sending Gurkha soldiers to battle on the front lines in Ukraine, following a string of defeats that have caused frustration among citizens.
Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal announced that six soldiers from the Nepali government, who were serving in the Russian military, have lost their lives in Ukraine during Vladimir Putin’s conflict since February 2022.

Since India gained independence in 1947, the Gurkhas have established a reputation for their courage and combat abilities on the battlefield. They have been enlisted in both the British and Indian armies through an agreement between the three nations.
The southern Indian state of the Himalayas, located between India and China, does not have a similar agreement with Russia.
According to The Kathmandu Post, Milan Raj Tuladhar, the ambassador of Nepal to Moscow, stated that approximately 150 to 200 Nepalis have been employed as mercenaries in the Russian army since the beginning of the war.
Mr. Tuladhar stated that we are informing individuals who come into contact with us about the dangers of joining the Russian army and sending them back to Nepal.
The ambassador reported that young Nepalese individuals are being enticed to join the conflict with appealing financial incentives and are essentially being smuggled into Russia.
According to him, we have been repatriating at least one Nepali citizen per day. They were all recruited to serve in the Russian army.
If the person does not have a Nepali passport, we provide them with a travel document and send them to Nepal.

According to the report, the remains of Rupak Karki and Sandip Thapaliya, both Nepali soldiers, have been interred following their deaths in mid-July of this year. The remaining soldiers are still being held in the mortuary.
It comes as Mr Putin has set his sights on boosting his ground troops capacity in Ukraine and signed a decree last week to increase recruitment by nearly 170,000 to reach a total of 1.32 million, as Russia suffers record losses in its 22-month-long war.
Russia has been making efforts to increase the number of volunteers by using tactics such as offering monetary incentives, contacting eligible men directly, and working with universities and social service organizations to attract students and unemployed individuals from all over the country.
