On the initial day of the conservative event, Matt Schlapp, chairman of the Conservative Political Action Conference, declined to answer inquiries regarding the accusations of sexual assault against him when approached by The Independent.
In the previous year, a Republican male involved in campaigning accused Mr. Schlapp of making unwelcome sexual advances towards him during the final days of the Georgia Senate’s runoff election.
In a legal case involving sexual assault, an unidentified person stated that Mr. Schlapp had touched their leg and proceeded to forcefully touch their genital area in a continuous manner while they were in a vehicle.
Mr. Schlapp has refuted the accusations made against him.
When The Independent approached Mr. Schlapp at the conference on Thursday, he declined to give a statement when questioned about the scandal.
The day after the release of new court documents on Wednesday, a subpoena was issued for a CPAC official who reportedly supervised interns during the destruction of documents related to Mr. Schlapp.
During the investigation, statements were obtained from two other individuals who claim that Mr. Schlapp made unwelcome sexual advances towards them, as reported by The Daily Beast.
According to a video recorded on the night of the supposed attack in October 2022, the individual accusing Mr. Schlapp stated that the conservative activist had touched them in a continuous, uninvited, and unwelcome manner, as reported by The Daily Beast.
“I was sexually assaulted by Matt Schlapp at CPAC. He forcefully touched and hit my genitals for an extended period of time. I was shocked and confused, wondering why this was happening to me.”
