The TSA unveiled a list of the 10 strangest items that individuals attempted to bring onto airplanes in 2023.
According to a statement, the TSA conducted screenings on more than 858 million individuals in the previous year. Within this large number were some concerning pieces of luggage. The agency compiled a list of items that were deemed unacceptable, ranging from surprising to hazardous. On 9 January, the TSA shared a thread on X showcasing their “Top 10 Best Catches of 2023,” complete with images of each unusual discovery.
The knives thrown by Naruto were ranked at the bottom of the list. These knives were found in a carry-on bag at Boston’s Logan International Airport, according to the agency.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) placed four fake rockets at the ninth spot on their list. These replicas were discovered in a checked bag at the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport.
The agency humorously commented that #8 was not a good idea, regardless of how you look at it. This was in reference to a knife being discovered inside a package of keto bread. The photo shows the knife stuck in a loaf of bread that was wrapped in plastic. This incident occurred at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport.
At the seventh spot, the inventory became more interesting as the TSA discovered a bag of meth concealed in a container of crab boil seasoning powder. The agency humorously commented that it was not a well-thought-out idea and mentioned that it was found in New Orleans.
TSA reported that a 35mm projectile was discovered in a passenger’s bag at the Charlotte, North Carolina airport, ranking it as the fifth incident.
The TSA found a knife concealed in a prosthetic foot in Anchorage, Alaska. The agency commented, “Not the best idea…”
The TSA announced that a fully loaded firearm was found at New Orleans Airport and was given the number four spot. It contained 163 rounds of ammunition. The TSA advises those traveling with firearms to learn how to pack and declare them properly beforehand.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) came across a CO2 cartridge that was modified to be used as an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during a search in Sacramento.
The agency made a significant discovery at number two when they discovered marijuana concealed in a diaper at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
The TSA reported that the top discovery at Tulsa Airport in Oklahoma was an “inert IED” concealed inside a Bang Energy drink. They noted that this was not a very invigorating way to begin the day at the airport.
Ignoring the humorous aspect, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported on January 10th that they “caught” over 6,700 guns at airport security checkpoints – with 93% of them being loaded. Shockingly, 2023 saw the highest number of firearms seized in one year.
