The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is seeking information regarding a guinea pig that was deserted at a London subway station along with a note stating “I am in need of a new caretaker”.
The lovable animal, estimated to be between six months and one year old, was found at Canning Town station at approximately 4:20pm on February 18.
Unfortunately, there were no security cameras present in the location where he was abandoned in a cage with a note attached.
The RSPCA will soon have a guinea pig available for adoption named DiscoPig, who will come with a companion.
Although DiscoPig was described as being in good condition and receiving proper care, the RSPCA staff are worried that the animal had been left unattended.
The RSPCA inspector Shahnaz Ahmad, who picked up the pet and brought him to an RSPCA facility, expressed sorrow for the abandoned pet, noting that he appeared to be in good health and receiving proper care.
They stated: “The solitary guinea pig was discovered, as guinea pigs typically tend to be gregarious and typically thrive in the company of other guinea pigs.”
A lone guinea pig may exhibit unusual behaviors and experience discomfort.
Inspector Ahmad advised individuals who are having difficulties caring for their pets to seek assistance from charitable organizations instead of abandoning their animals. He stated, “We strongly encourage individuals to contact local animal welfare charities for support with pet care, rather than leaving them in a precarious situation like this.”
It is extremely cruel to abandon pets in this way and it should never be the solution.
If you have any details regarding the event, please reach out to the RSPCA’s confidential appeal line at 0300 123 8018.
