Five individuals were taken to the hospital following a bus collision with a high-rise residential building in Paisley.
The emergency services rushed to the scene at Hamilton Court, in Calside, shortly after midday on Wednesday.
Motorists were strongly advised to steer clear of the vicinity, as adjacent roads were shut down and emergency services were attending to the collision.
Photos and video footage of the incident revealed visible harm to the front of the bus and shattered windows. The front door seemed to be squeezed shut and the bus was wedged into the exterior wall of the tall building.
According to McGill’s Buses, the driver was one of five individuals who were transported to the hospital by ambulance teams. The cause of the accident is not yet known, as it is still too early to determine.
A representative stated that it is currently too soon to determine the cause of the accident. However, McGill’s staff are present and collaborating with the police for the investigation following the incident. They will continue to do so in the coming days.
A local resident went to assist those involved in the accident after hearing it from their residence. They expressed surprise upon seeing the bus collided with the apartments.
According to a statement made to BBC Scotland News, the individuals on the bus appeared to be disoriented and disconcerted, therefore we attempted to soothe their nerves. It is believed that they will eventually recover.
My sister and I boarded the bus by climbing through the windows to see if we could assist in calming the passengers.
The people on the bus could not be removed due to the buckled doors, but we ensured that they were all seated until the emergency services arrived, stated the speaker.
A nearby resident also informed the television network that a vehicle had previously collided with the structure a couple of years back, underscoring the dangerous nature of that particular section of road.
Police Scotland has reported that emergency services are currently at the scene of a bus crash on Calside in Paisley. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 13 March 2024 at approximately 12:20pm.
Five individuals were transported to a medical facility for medical assistance and investigations are still ongoing.
Due to ongoing road closures, including Calside Avenue, Polsons Crescent, Craw Road, and Alexandra Gate, drivers are advised to steer clear of the affected area.
