At peak booking periods, easyJet, the largest low-cost airline in Britain, had a rate of filling two planes every minute. On Saturday, January 6, 2024, it experienced its highest sales in a single day.
The top-selling places included Amsterdam, Paris, Malaga, and Palma. The most in-demand month for flights was May.
The month of August sees the highest number of package holiday sales.
According to the holiday division of the airline, 60% of its sales were for all-inclusive resorts, and 70% of holidaymakers chose four- or five-star properties.
Sales increased in lesser-known destinations such as Skiathos, a Greek island, Zadar in Croatia, Tivat in Montenegro, and La Rochelle.
As there are still 10 weeks left in the winter sports season, Geneva, Lyon, and Innsbruck are currently leading destinations for ski vacations.
The holiday department saw a 48% increase compared to last year, and is projected to increase by one-third in 2024.
In a recent report on the first three months of trading from October to December 2023, Johan Lundgren, the CEO of easyJet, stated that bookings for flights and holidays have increased during this typically busy booking period. He also mentioned that there is a strong momentum for bookings in the summer of 2024, highlighting the significance and value of vacations for their customers.
According to Mr Lundgren, the shortage of air-traffic control staff and labor relations in Europe continue to be difficult. He suggested implementing better air-traffic techniques to decrease flight distances and carbon emissions.
On Sunday evening, easyJet and many other airlines experienced extreme weather conditions with many diversions due to Storm Isha.
A flight operated by easyJet, departing from Edinburgh and bound for Bristol, was redirected to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.
According to Mr Lundgren’s statement to The Independent, safety is our top priority. Despite difficult circumstances, the crew did an exceptional job. Due to limited options, we were forced to divert to Paris CDG as we had exhausted all alternatives in the UK.
There is nothing we can do to control the weather.
EasyJet Holidays is looking to grow its presence in the market compared to its competitors, including Jet2 Holidays, Tui, and Love Holidays. On Tuesday, Ryanair, the largest budget airline in Europe, revealed a collaboration with the online travel agency Love Holidays.
