A flight operated by British Airways traveling from London to Prague had to turn back to Heathrow Airport because of a technical problem. There have been unconfirmed reports of potential fumes in the cockpit.
British Airways flight 854 departed from Heathrow Airport at approximately 7:40am on Sunday. The scheduled arrival time in Prague was 10:05am.
According to flight tracking websites, the Airbus A320 aircraft was redirected back to Heathrow over the Channel and landed again at the airport less than an hour after its departure.
The aircraft returned to Heathrow due to a technical issue and landed safely after the pilots chose to return in order to prioritise passengers’ safety, The Independent understands.
In a statement, British Airways issued an apology for the delay experienced by its customers due to the aircraft’s return to Heathrow as a precautionary measure.
“Our teams took care of them while they waited to board another plane and continue their trip.”
The reported presence of fumes in the cockpit could not be confirmed.
According to the Mail Online, video footage from livestreaming services depicted multiple fire engines quickly responding to the landing of the plane at Heathrow.
The airline has canceled over 30 flights from Heathrow on Sunday due to the forecasted winds of up to 90mph from Storm Isha.
