The final call, in Arizona, was made in favour of the two men shortly after 8pm local time by the Associated Press.
However, the focus was on the Republican race for Senate in Ohio, bringing renewed attention to the influence of Mr. Trump’s endorsement.
The MAGA representative for the presidential candidate, Bernie Moreno who was a former car salesman, defeated two GOP establishment opponents, state senator Matt Dolan and secretary of state Frank LaRose. This puts him in the position to compete against Democrat Sherrod Brown.
At 8:35pm, the Associated Press declared Mr. Moreno the winner in Ohio.
During a 90-minute speech at the Dayton Air Show on Saturday, the Republican candidate for president praised his chosen running mate as a “fantastic guy.” He also criticized Mr. Dolan, calling him “the next Mitt Romney.”
