According to the professor, the cause of the AT&T outage is most likely due to misconfiguration of the cloud.
According to Lee McKnight, an associate professor at Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies, the most probable reason for the service disruption is a “cloud misconfiguration” or a mistake made by a person.
He stated that while a malicious hack of ATT’s network is a possibility, it is less likely. The widespread outages across the country indicate a more fundamental issue.

According to Downdetector, a website that monitors service disruptions, residents in four cities in Texas and various other cities in the Midwest and on the east coast experienced the highest number of disruptions.
Individuals affected by the issue were located in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin. In the meantime, other citizens who experienced difficulties with cellular service were primarily situated in Atlanta, Chicago, New York City, Miami, and Indianapolis.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is collaborating with AT&T.

A county in Virginia is encouraging its residents to utilize the text messaging feature to contact 911 in the event of a service outage.
Authorities are facing difficulties in receiving calls due to the ongoing AT&T outage. In Virginia, the officials of Prince William County, located an hour south-west of Washington DC, are urging their citizens to send emergency texts if needed.
According to the Prince William Times, officials in nearby counties are also issuing similar notices, but are advising residents to use text messaging as an option for contacting 911.
