An uncommon occurrence of 'pancake' ice has formed over a Wisconsin lake due to a decrease in temperatures.

On Tuesday, 28 November, a video captured the formation of unique ice “pancakes” on Lake Superior in northern Wisconsin.

The Met Office in the UK states that “pancakes” of ice are a rare occurrence where circular pieces of ice ranging from 20 to 200 cm in width are created, resulting in a fascinating sight.

Although not commonly encountered, these creatures are typically found in frigid bodies of water such as the Baltic Sea, Antarctica, and the Great Lakes in North America.
