According to Semafor, Tucker Carlson had a meeting with Edward Snowden in Moscow.
The previous informant received significant coverage in Russian media before desiring more privacy for his personal life with his family.
In 2013, Mr Snowden was first given protection in Russia after revealing a large amount of confidential documents from the National Security Agency (NSA). In 2020, he was granted permanent residency in Russia. During that year, he declared his intention to pursue dual citizenship, citing his desire to be reunited with his son after being separated from his parents for many years.
According to reports, Carlson had a lengthy meeting with Snowden. However, the purpose of the meeting was not related to his video program, as noted by the outlet.
However, Carlson did conduct an interview with Tara Reade, a previous aide for the Senate, who later made allegations of sexual assault against President Joe Biden, to which he has refuted.
After expressing her growing approval of Russian policies, the ex-assistant relocated to Russia.
In 2022, the Russian delegation at the UN requested for her to address the issue of “weapons diversion”. She then invited Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN to make an appearance on her YouTube channel.
In 2020, Carlson expressed doubt about her accusations against Biden.
The ex-Fox News anchor received considerable backlash for attempting to secure an interview with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which was the primary reason for his trip to Moscow.
The interview was published on Thursday evening and started with a long speech from Mr. Putin discussing the history of Russia and Ukraine.
Jamie Dettmer, in his piece for Politico, points out that Tucker Carlson is not the first journalist from the West to align himself with the enemy. This is a trend that dates back to figures like Hitler and Stalin, who were able to find compliant British and American individuals to spread their propaganda.
Putin refers to Ukraine as a “man-made” country created under Stalin’s direction.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a Russian businessman and political opponent who was exiled after his arrest in 2003 for clashing with Mr. Putin, commented on X that Carlson is being used by the Kremlin to gain acceptance from the West.
“It requires approval from Western sources. As a result, Russian propagandists have started leaving favorable comments in support of Putin under articles on Western news sites using fake European and American identities. They then present these comments as ‘Western viewpoints’,” the author stated. “This is where Tucker Carlson comes into play. He has consistently praised Putin for many years, even as the dictator’s reputation deteriorated among the general Western population. Therefore, when Carlson visited Moscow, he was treated like a celebrity.”
The dissident wrote about Carlson’s trip to Moscow, stating that it has gotten more attention from the media than any other visiting world leader or celebrity in recent years. They believe this is due to the regime’s desire for approval from the Western world, making every action of the visit seem of national significance.
President Putin seized the opportunity to present his biased interpretation of history, asserting that Ukraine is not a legitimate nation.
“After the conclusion of World War II, Ukraine was granted control over not only the territories previously held by Poland, but also those that were previously under the jurisdiction of Hungary and Romania. This resulted in the loss of land for both Romania and Hungary, as it was now under the rule of Soviet Ukraine. To this day, these territories remain a part of Ukraine,” he stated.
According to Mr Putin, Ukraine was created by Stalin and is therefore an artificial state. This gives us strong grounds to assert this claim.
