According to Axios’ report, House Republicans are becoming more convinced that the ongoing investigations into Joe Biden will not lead to an impeachment vote.
Despite a year of investigation into the Biden family, there has been minimal evidence uncovered regarding the supposed bribery and corruption claims against President Biden, his son Hunter Biden, and his brother Jim Biden.
A House Republican stated that they do not believe the situation will lead to any significant progress, and there are not nearly enough Republican votes to impeach the president.
The legislator stated that there were approximately 40-50 Republicans who would probably vote against impeaching Mr. Biden.
The Republican party faced challenges in getting the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas approved earlier this month.
One Republican lawmaker informed Axios that they do not believe the measure will be approved because there are too many Republicans who will inform the speaker that it cannot pass.
Representative Don Bacon from Nebraska stated that the ongoing impeachment inquiry has been beneficial, however it has not yet provided evidence of a specific law being broken by the President.
According to two lawmakers who spoke to Axios, senior staff members recently briefed the Republican Main Street Caucus. The group’s reaction was described as having a “healthy skepticism” towards both the legitimacy of President Trump’s alleged high crimes and misdemeanors and the politics surrounding the impeachment process.
The investigation into the Bidens faced a humiliating setback last week with the indictment of FBI informant Alexander Smirnov on charges of making false statements and obstructing justice. He is accused of giving misleading information about the president and his son.
The accusations made by Mr. Smirnov were crucial in the Republican argument against the Bidens.
Additionally, he acknowledged that Russian intelligence had a part in the allegations regarding the business transactions of the president’s relatives.
Initially, his evidence was seen as vital in the case against the Bidens, but now its importance is being minimized.
