A female individual was apprehended for trespassing onto the airport tarmac, allegedly in an effort to stop a plane from departing without her.
The occurrence took place on Wednesday evening at Canberra Airport in Australia and was captured on video by individuals nearby.
In the video, an unexpected individual can be observed standing near the QantasLink plane, appearing to attempt to attract the pilot’s notice right before takeoff.
Unable to prevent the plane from moving, she reverses course and heads towards the terminal building.
According to Dennis Bilic, who captured the event on video, individuals appeared unprepared and unsure of how to react, which was unusual.
According to Mr Bilic, the spectators were left questioning whether anyone would intervene and stop her.
Another witness, Simon Hales, described the incident as “bizarre”, and later wrote on Facebook: “A lady who had missed her flight clearly thought she could still catch it … luckily the pilot was warned or spotted her and killed the engine.”
According to Mr Hales, the woman forcibly bypassed the door staff, sprinted onto the tarmac, and approached the plane.
The Independent reached out to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Canberra Airport for additional details.
A representative from the AFP verified that the woman was charged with unauthorized entry into a restricted area or security zone and causing damage to property. She was also charged with possession of a small amount of cannabis.
This unconventional method of hitching a ride on a plane has been attempted before.
In 2021, a female individual was arrested in Los Angeles for entering the tarmac at LAX Airport, possibly attempting to signal an airplane.
