A traveler was shocked when she unintentionally purchased a cocktail from her hotel bar for £1,890.
On TikTok, a video was shared by a user named Lynsey, where she shared her experience that occurred right before the start of the new year.
After coming back to her undisclosed hotel in London, she was slightly intoxicated and ordered a drink called “1890”. She mistakenly believed the cost was £18.90.
In response to a comment inquiring about the outcome, Lynsey posted another video that has currently received over 1.5 million views. In the video, she states that upon realizing the cost of her cocktail was nearly £2,000, she showed the receipt to her husband who found it amusing and left the bar laughing.
I apologized to the bartender, admitting that I was unaware of the cost being £1,890. He then summoned his manager who handled the situation with tact and kindness. The manager reassured me that it was no problem and advised me to continue enjoying my stay while they sorted out the issue.
“This was the initial night of my five-night stay at this hotel. If I am asked to pay £2,000 for a cocktail, I will be extremely shocked and will avoid the bar at all costs.”
On New Year’s Eve, Lynsey and her sister went back to the bar and encountered the manager. He greeted them by extending his arms and saying, “Oh, it’s the girl who convinced us to open the Cristal.”
“I apologized, stating, ‘I am deeply sorry, it was an honest error’.”
Lynsey inquired about the bartender’s state, as he appeared to be “anxious”.
“He stated, ‘I fired him’, causing me to burst into tears. I then declared, ‘It’s not worth the man’s livelihood, I will cover the £2,000 cost.'”
The manager responded by advising Lynsey to “remain calm”, explaining that he had only been joking. The bartender was able to keep their job, but was required to undergo additional training.
Lynsey mentioned that he was instructed to ensure that the customers are aware that the cost is £1,890.
“Subsequently, we had the opportunity to sit with the manager and share drinks with him and his family, resulting in a delightful New Year celebration.”
“From now on, I will always verify the cost of cocktails.”
