Authorities in Texas are currently conducting an inquiry following the circulation of a video on social media showing a teenager attacking unknown individuals in a nearby park, all for the purpose of creating a TikTok video.
The individual, who was recognized by ABC13, confessed to creating the video, but claimed that the reported attacks were a “joke” and not intended to cause harm.
A video shared on the social networking site Nextdoor depicted a man wearing a red hoodie who approached two individuals from behind and struck them in the head. He also tackled one of the men around the waist.
The Independent received confirmation from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department that they are currently investigating the reported incidents that took place on Thursday. As of now, no formal charges have been made.
ABC was able to locate the 19-year-old who claimed he did not intend to harm the men he was accused of assaulting.
“He explained that it was a practical joke and he had no issues with the man. He also clarified that he had no intention of causing harm,” he said in a text message to the outlet.
“I was spending time with my friend when we filmed a TikTok video. I want to clarify that I had no intention of causing harm to anyone.”
The individuals interviewed by the station were surprised by the aggressive occurrences, stating that the park was typically a tranquil location. A few mentioned that the adolescent should be sentenced to prison.
Michael Patrick, a visitor at the park, expressed that the situation is absurd and that there is clearly an issue with that individual.
We wish for him to receive the necessary assistance and also serve time in prison for a very hazardous act. The situation could have been far more severe.
Another resident, Frankie Jimenez, stated: “He is 19 years old and legally an adult. He should know better. That is considered assault. If I were to do something like that, I would be taken into custody.”
