A team of explorers who search for sunken ships have discovered a remarkably well-preserved vessel from World War II resting at the bottom of Lake Superior.

The hunters searching for shipwrecks found an incredible surprise – a ship from WWII that had sunk to the depths of Lake Superior, the biggest freshwater lake in the world that spans the border between Canada and the US.

The SS Arlington, a 244ft bulk carrier from 1940, was discovered on the bottom of the lake by the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society and researcher Dan Fountain on Monday, February 12th.

The video captured by an underwater ROV (remotely operated vehicle) displays the sunken wreckage in good condition, with the steering wheel and mooring winch appearing to be unharmed.

The Arlington departed from Port Arthur, Ontario on April 30, 1940 and unfortunately sank in the early hours of May 1 due to storm damage and flooding.
