New research suggests that consuming one or more glasses of 100% fruit juice every day may be associated with weight gain in children.

Based on research on children, consuming a 237 ml glass of 100% fruit juice daily was linked to a 0.03 increase in body mass index (BMI).
The study also revealed that weight gain was more significant in younger children compared to older children.
In studies that tracked adults over time, consuming 100% fruit juice was linked to an increase in weight, particularly in studies that did not take calorie intake into consideration.
The researchers state that there is a correlation between excess calories and this connection.
Michelle Nguyen, the primary author from the University of Toronto in Canada, stated that their research supports the recommendation to restrict consumption of 100% fruit juice, particularly for young children. Instead, they suggest consuming whole fruits.
Certain specialists propose that consuming 100% fruit juice may lead to an increase in weight because of its elevated levels of sugar and calorie content.
These beverages lack a significant amount of fiber in comparison to consuming the entire fruit, resulting in reduced feelings of fullness.
Findings, published in Jama Paediatrics, looked at a total of 42 studies, including 17 among children and 25 among adults.
