A male individual was apprehended at a Tokyo airport for reportedly biting a member of the cabin crew during a flight to Seattle.
The ANA flight from Haneda Airport in Tokyo was compelled to return in the early hours of Wednesday due to an incident that caused the captain to make a U-turn over the Pacific Ocean.
Flight Radar data indicates that an ANA Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner departed from the primary flight hub at 9:47pm local time, then reversed course at 10:50pm and returned to the airport, landing at 12:23am on Wednesday morning.
According to Kyodo News, a 55-year-old man from America was held down by crew members and subsequently handed over to law enforcement for allegedly causing harm to a member of the flight staff.
Multiple news sources in the area stated that the man refuted the accusation and stated that he “has no recollection of the events as he had consumed a sleeping pill.”
The Independent has reached out to Tokyo Police, ANA, and Haneda Airport for a response.
There has been significant news coverage on Japanese air travel in the past few weeks due to two crashes that happened in close succession.
On January 2nd, a tragic airplane crash occurred at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, resulting in the loss of five lives. The collision between a Japan Airlines plane and a coastguard aircraft caused the former to catch fire on the runway.
Video taken from inside the Japan Airlines A350 aircraft, with 379 passengers on board, including eight children, displayed smoke coming from the underside of the wings as it touched down at Tokyo’s Haneda airport at approximately 5:45pm local time (8:45am GMT).
As the plane came to a stop, it was quickly surrounded by fire and emergency workers worked to remove all of the passengers. Tragically, five members of the coastguard team lost their lives in the accident. The pilot managed to survive, but was seriously injured.
A traveler on the commercial flight recounted the instance when their airplane seemed to have crashed into another aircraft.
The unidentified passenger reported to the Kyodo news agency, “I experienced a loud noise, as if we had collided with something and suddenly jerked upward upon landing. I witnessed sparks outside the window and the interior of the cabin was filled with gas and smoke.”
Yesterday, there was a collision between a Korean Air Lines plane and a Cathay Pacific Airways aircraft at New Chitose Airport on the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan.
According to a spokesperson from Korean Air, one of their aircrafts had a minor collision with a Cathay aircraft while being pushed back at New Chitose Airport due to a third-party ground handler vehicle slipping on heavy snow. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the airline is working with the appropriate authorities.
