A former advisor to Donald Trump while he was president claims that he has declined in mental agility since the 2016 election.
Alyssa Farah Griffin said that the former president was “not the strongest fighter the Republicans could have right now” and that he had always had problems recalling facts or names.
As discussions about the cognitive abilities of 77-year-old Mr. Trump and 81-year-old President Joe Biden persist, a likely rematch between the two in November is on the horizon.
According to a recent survey conducted by The New York Times/Siena College, 47% of participants strongly share the view that Mr. Biden’s age is hindering his effectiveness, while 26% somewhat agree with this statement.
21% of respondents strongly believed that Mr. Trump is too old, while another 21% somewhat agreed.
During the weekend, a group of Trump supporters gathered in Richmond, Virginia to listen to the ex-president speak. However, their silence was noticeable as he once again confused Mr. Biden with Barack Obama.
“Mr. Trump spoke on Saturday, stating that shortly after his presidency victory, he plans to resolve the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.”
“I am familiar with both of them and we will use our strength to bring peace. We need to resolve this war. It’s a terrible situation. Putin has shown a lack of respect for Obama by mentioning nuclear weapons, even though Biden is now in charge.”
He has repeated the same mistake multiple times and has attempted to clarify that and other mistakes – like confusing Democratic former House speaker Nancy Pelosi with his Republican competitor for the 2024 nomination Nikki Haley – by stating that he is intentionally doing it for the sake of “humor” and “sarcasm.”
During her CNN interview, Ms. Griffin, who served as special assistant to Mr. Trump from October 2017 to September 2019, was questioned about how often Mr. Trump mixes up facts, particularly in regards to his recent campaign mistakes.
She previously mentioned that he is not as proficient as he was in 2016 and even less so than in 2020. However, for some unknown reason, this may not be evident to voters.
Ms. Griffin, who co-hosts ABC’s The View and is a political commentator, expressed concern about why voters are not viewing this as a problem and stated that the situation has worsened.
Trump complains about ‘untruthful’ Biden for accusing him of not remembering Melania’s name in a recent mistake.
However, according to her, Donald Trump may not be the most formidable candidate for Republicans at this time. Surprisingly, voters are overlooking his age, despite being only three and a half years younger than President Joe Biden.
“Their demeanor is perceived differently for some reason… It has not improved, in fact, it has worsened. He is not as mentally astute as before.”
