According to a former member of Donald Trump’s team, the ex-president could potentially shut down the internet if he wins another term.
During an appearance on MSNBC, Miles Taylor, who previously served as Mr. Trump’s chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, stated this claim.
It was inquired to Mr. Taylor what potential harm Mr. Trump could cause if he were to be re-elected to the Oval Office in 2024.
According to Mr. Taylor, the potential is nearly boundless. He believes the greatest worries lie in terms of national security. He feels that Americans are still unaware of the complete scope of the president’s authority and the potential consequences of Donald Trump’s actions, protected by legal language, which could harm the country.
According to him, President Trump has the ability to use unprecedented powers, such as shutting down businesses, cutting off internet access, or sending the military onto American soil.
“We are not aware of the extent of the emergency powers of the president, as they are not commonly known among the American public,” he stated.
He expressed concern that President Trump may use his authority to harm his opponents, which is a major concern for people like him and others.
Mr. Taylor stated that the government’s ability to use weapons could potentially spread to other agencies, such as the Department of Education and the Department of Veteran Affairs. This could be used to benefit allies and harm enemies by leveraging their budgets and power.
The statements made by Mr. Taylor were potential demonstrations of what Mr. Trump could do with his presidential powers, rather than a definite indication of his plans if he were to be re-elected.
In 2015, Mr. Trump hinted at the possibility of limiting internet access in certain situations.
According to Mr. Trump, the internet is causing us to lose many individuals. He believes we should seek advice from experts like Bill Gates to better comprehend the situation. In certain regions, he suggests restricting access to the internet. However, some may argue that this goes against freedom of speech, but Mr. Trump dismisses these concerns as foolish.
It’s unlikely Mr Trump would fully disable the internet in the United States; not only would it cripple commerce and create mass public upheaval, he also is a prolific user of social media and frequently calls for donations using his campaign website.
