A plane traveling from London to Newark, New Jersey had to make an emergency landing due to a boyfriend who was reportedly intoxicated and quarreling with his significant other.
Airline officials stated that the flight had to be rerouted to Bangor International Airport on Friday due to disruptive passengers.
The representative stated that they will undergo a review, and will subsequently be prohibited from going on future flights.
According to a spokesperson, two passengers on United Airlines Flight 883 were removed upon arrival in Bangor on Friday morning due to disruptive behavior. Police stated that the individuals appeared to be intoxicated.
The flight, with an initial capacity of 150 individuals, ultimately reached its destination in New Jersey. The risk level for security was labeled as a Level 2, meaning there were increased dangers to take into consideration for safety.
Officers from the Bangor Police Department were among those who welcomed the Boeing 767 upon its landing.
According to court documents, two passengers were removed from the flight and one of them was arrested and faced charges for assault and interfering with the flight crew.
According to an FBI statement, the individual on the flight became aggressive towards the flight crew when they attempted to intervene during a loud argument with his girlfriend. Despite being restrained with plastic “flex cuffs,” he remained combative and physically aggressive.
The government asked for the passenger to be detained until a hearing can be held.
A spokesperson for the airline stated that United flight 883 arrived in Bangor this morning and had two passengers who seemed to be under the influence, causing a disturbance. The two individuals were removed by law enforcement and the flight has since departed for Newark Liberty International Airport.
“We are currently reviewing this matter and as a result, any customers involved will not be allowed to book future flights with United.”
Sergeant Jason McAmbley, spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department, informed PEOPLE that the probe into the incident involving two passengers being removed from the plane is being handled by CBP and FBI.
