A flight attendant suggests that hotel guests place a bottle under their beds upon entering their rooms to assist in detecting any potential hiding individuals.
In a video about solo travel tips, Esther Sturrus, an employee of KLM airline from the Netherlands, shared her advice and regularly posts travel-related content on TikTok.
Visitors may be at risk of being targeted by unauthorized individuals and intruders, particularly if they are staying on the first level or in accommodations that can be easily entered from outside.
According to the video, if you ensure that the bottle exits on the opposite side, you can easily verify that there is no one under the bed without physically checking.
The video also includes advice on how to properly store toiletries, steam your clothes using the shower, and prevent steam buildup on your bathroom mirror.
In October 2022, a new video was posted that showcases the initial actions she takes upon arriving in her hotel room. This video has received nearly 39 million views and offers advice such as securing the door, shutting the curtains, and adjusting the air conditioning.
Some TikTok users have shown appreciation for the advice. One user commented, “It never crossed my mind that someone could be hiding under the bed.”
One individual referred to the advice as “extremely helpful”, while another noted that “flight attendants are the true MVPs”.
In April, Ms. Sturrus made headlines for sharing her top 10 travel tips, including the advice to leave a shoe in the safe.
At the time, she mentioned that this method ensures that you won’t forget anything in your safe and will remind you if you’re missing a shoe before leaving.
Some other tricks and suggestions have not been as positively received. In March, a TikTok user named NDA shared a “hack” he used where he purchased three fully refundable tickets in the same row and then returned them shortly before take-off, allowing him to have an entire row to himself. This created a divide in opinions, with some saying it would not be successful due to flights being overbooked and others questioning the ethics behind it.
