A teenager, 15, was taken into custody after a 58-year-old bus driver passed away.
The news has left us shocked and saddened, and our first thoughts are with the family and friends of our driver who has passed away.
Ensuring safety is our topmost concern and occurrences of this nature are highly uncommon.
“We are making every effort to provide support to our coworkers and the family of our driver, while also cooperating with the police in their inquiry.”
A representative from Police Scotland stated that at approximately 10:40pm on Friday, February 2nd, 2024, authorities responded to a report of a 58-year-old man being assaulted in the St Giles Road vicinity of Elgin.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the man to Dr. Grays Hospital in Elgin, where he ultimately passed away.
A 15-year-old male has been taken into custody in relation to the event and investigations are ongoing.
On Saturday, the Elgin bus station was shut down while police looked into the matter. As a result, Stagecoach Bluebird, the operator, had to cancel several services.
Richard Lochhead, Member of Scottish Parliament for Moray and Minister for Small Business in the Scottish Government, stated that he had communicated with the local police and Stagecoach.
He expressed sympathy for the bus driver’s family and friends and acknowledged that the local community is deeply affected by this terrible event.
This will be a challenging period for all individuals working at the nearby Stagecoach station.
All employees responsible for operating our community’s buses play a crucial role in providing necessary transportation and deserve to return home safely and in good health after completing their shifts.
I have contacted the authorities and the bus company. My heart goes out to all those who have been impacted in the meantime.
