At Paris Fashion Week, Victoria Beckham presented a unique and unconventional collection that was interrupted by animal rights protestors.
The autumn/winter 2024 collection debuted with a bold shift, as the first model to grace the runway appeared in what appeared to be a classic tailored suit. However, upon closer inspection, the jacket was revealed to be detached from the model’s body, featuring an audacious open back.
Although many pieces in the collection remained faithful to the label’s established style, featuring a blend of delicate dresses, precise tailoring, and desirable outerwear, there was also a touch of avant-garde influence in the fashion.
The collection was characterized by prominent sculptural elements, including coats with high necklines that were zipped up to the models’ chins.
The colors used were understated and certain silhouettes had a 1970s feel, especially with the high-waisted flare pants.
The era of the 1970s has been a prominent inspiration during this fashion season, notably showcased during Chemena Kamali’s inaugural presentation as creative director of Chloe.
In order to emphasize a more experimental aesthetic, the presentation of the show featured modern and simplified styling.
The make-up at the Victoria Beckham show was simple and minimalist. The focus was on achieving clear and radiant skin, while the hair was styled in a slicked back manner.
Anthony Turner, the lead stylist, utilized ghd products and Wella Professionals tools to achieve the desired look. He explained, “The hair was largely influenced by the proportions of the collection.”
On the runway, we have witnessed stunning high collars that required a sleek hairdo, allowing the hair to neatly tuck into the collar.
Beckham took an emotional bow at the end of the show in an all-black outfit, walking on crutches following an accident in the gym last month. She appeared to blow a kiss to the people who worked in the atelier, helping make the clothes, and later wrote on Instagram: “Thank you to my incredible Atelier team! I couldn’t do it without you and love you all so much!”
The exhibition took place in a cozy room with candles at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild, but the peaceful ambiance was disturbed by activists from Peta campaigning for animal rights.
The activists stood up during the show and paraded down the runway with the models, displaying signs that read “long live vegan leather”.
The message on their T-shirts states: “Animals are not materials. Refuse to support animal skins.”
According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), although Beckham’s brand has prohibited the use of fur and exotic skins, they continue to use a significant amount of leather obtained through cruel means, specifically calfskin.
The non-profit group also took the fashion runways by storm this season, appearing at Coach in New York, Burberry in London, and Fendi in Milan.
“The president of the non-profit organization in Europe, Mimi Bekhechi, stated that no piece of clothing or accessory is worth brutally killing and skinning a vulnerable and intelligent animal.”
We are encouraging Victoria Beckham to consider using ethical and environmentally friendly approaches, such as utilizing premium leather made from sustainable sources like apples, grapes, pineapples, mushrooms, and other alternatives.
Representatives of Beckham have been contacted for their response.
