NYFW has concluded its dazzling season, featuring bold designs and a star-studded front row.
The autumn/winter 2024 season at New York Fashion Week lived up to its reputation as the trendier counterpart to Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.
Here’s a recap of the latest fashion updates from a week in New York City…
Beyoncé is seated in the front row.
Beyoncé made a unexpected appearance on Tuesday evening, where she took a seat in the front row to support her 19-year-old nephew, Daniel ‘Julez’ Smith Jr, as he walked the runway for the Luar fashion show. The brand is known for its focus on representing and celebrating cultural diversity.
The famous American musician was seated beside her mother, Tina Knowles, donning a sparkling silver jacket and thigh-high boots from Gaurav Gupta’s latest spring 2024 line. She completed the ensemble with large sunglasses, a holographic Luar purse, and a cowboy hat in a matching shade.
2. Molly Ringwald walked the runway
Molly Ringwald, known for her role in the movie “Sixteen Candles”, kicked off the Batsheva fashion show in a striking black gown with a hood. The brand described the dress on Instagram as “a velvet funeral-inspired dream, reminiscent of Jackie O.”
The 55-year-old is typically observed occupying the front row, but for this season she was part of a full group of models aged 40 or above. Designer Batsheva Hay had dedicated weeks to selecting diverse women for the show, explaining to The New York Times that she did so because she herself is 42 years old.
She mentioned that aging is a major concern for both me and my friends, and it creates unease in the fashion industry.
Tommy Hilfiger returns to his residence.
For his second event following the spread of COVID-19, fashion expert Tommy Hilfiger aimed to pay tribute to New York City.
He organized the event at the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station, with notable guests such as Damson Idris, the latest spokesperson Sofia Richie Grainge, and Kelly Rutherford all present.
Hilfiger shared with CNN before the show that it felt like the right moment to return and honor New York. The city is iconic and holds a special place for me as it is where my journey began.
The popular brand showcased a daring and contemporary take on preppy style with their collection of varsity bomber jackets, trench coats, striped jumpers, and polo shirts.
Blake Lively appears.
The actress and former Gossip Girl star showed her support for her friend Michael Kors by attending his autumn-winter runway show on Tuesday.
The mother, who has four children, was dressed in a fashionable giraffe-print trench coat and matching mini skirt. She completed the look with chocolate brown boots.
She showed up following her attendance at the Super Bowl on Sunday, where she witnessed the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
She was seen attending the game with Taylor Swift, Ice Spice, Lana Del Rey, Miles Teller, and Keleigh Sperry.
5. All eyes on Area
In honor of its 10th anniversary, Area took a unique approach – while others were showcasing fall/winter collections, Area chose to unveil spring/summer clothing.
Outfits adorned with statement googly eyes were influenced by Sixties pop art and 1920s cartoons.
According to Area’s Instagram post, this collection examines the relationship between seeing and being seen, delving into the contrast between basic necessities and the exceptional, while reconstructing the link between fashion and those who observe it.
6. Storybook drama at Thom Browne
Following a stint in Paris, Thom Browne made a grand return to the New York Fashion Week lineup.
He is an experienced member of the fashion world and also serves as the head of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). He is renowned for his extravagant fashion shows, and this season was no exception.
The fashion show was influenced by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, The Raven. The models walked on a catwalk that resembled a wintry wasteland. It was not just a typical runway show, but a form of performance art. One of the “trees” on the runway was actually a man on stilts wearing a big puffer jacket. To add to the spectacle, four children emerged from the coat and watched the show.
The attire had a fittingly Gothic aesthetic, with predominantly monochromatic tones and models adorned with sculptural headpieces. The focus was on precise tailoring and angular shapes, but also incorporated a touch of athleticism – notable figures such as Janet Jackson and Queen Latifah were seated in the front row to witness the captivating display.
