Gigi Hadid embodied a rebellious and punk-influenced attitude while walking the runway at Versace’s recent Milan Fashion Week presentation.
Hadid is a familiar face on the Versace runway, and this season wore a black button-up dress with a sheer built-in top and white collar and cuff detailing.
In the 2024 fall/winter collection, Versace incorporated their trademark glamour with a rebellious punk vibe. This was evident in the use of black leather gloves, dark eye makeup, and undone hair worn by Hadid to complete the ensemble.
Versace’s aesthetic has always been maximalist, flying in the face of the quiet luxury trend taking over runways – and this season is no different.
The focal point of the collection was power tailoring, featuring military-influenced coats paired with mini skirts, boucle suits, and structured jackets with striking shoulders.
The button-front jackets with an elongated hem, paired with trousers, reinvented a timeless Versace style from the past, famously worn by the late musician Prince in his iconic film “Purple Rain.”
The checked outerwear and grungy mohair jumpers showed elements of punk, but still maintained the polished style of Versace with sleek shapes, leopard prints, and a touch of glitter.
Other Italian brands are experiencing transformations, such as Moschino’s new creative director debuting his first collection at Milan Fashion Week and Sabato De Sarno gaining more confidence in Gucci’s new direction. However, Versace’s collection was somewhat expected, as Donatella Versace has been at the helm since the 1990s.
Versace described the show on Instagram as having a “subtle rebellion”, but the beauty looks featured were far from subtle – models sported dramatic black cat-eye flicks and some rocked bold spiky wigs.
According to renowned make-up artist Pat McGrath, the current trend is all about punk. The key element is a glossy, intense black eye look that exudes a rebellious attitude while still maintaining a touch of glamour and allure. In essence, it’s a fusion of punk and Versace styles.
McGrath revealed that she presented three striking black winged styles on the runway. The first was precise and bold, the second had a softer appearance, and the third featured a daring shape with bleached eyebrows.
Actress Anne Hathaway, who has been a brand ambassador for Versace for a long time, was seated in the front row wearing an outfit directly from the runway.
She donned a form-fitting red leather midi-dress with an integrated corset and an off-the-shoulder neckline, but opted not to accessorize with the matching red gloves worn by the model on the runway.
Jennifer Lopez recently shared in a Vogue video that her stylist advised against wearing the iconic Versace green chiffon dress to the Grammy Awards in 2000. This dress caused a frenzy and is often credited as the inspiration for Google’s image search feature.
