Chris Pine has stood by his choice to sport short shorts even after a picture of him wearing them gained widespread attention.
During a recent interview with E! News, the actor from Dungeons & Dragons expressed that he plans to continue wearing the controversial, thigh-baring outfit. Upon learning that pictures of him had spread widely online, the actor enthusiastically replied, “Absolutely.”
He maintained his stance and declined to justify the shorts, believing it was unnecessary. “I don’t see a reason to defend it,” he stated. “It’s called a short for a reason, right? It’s meant to be short.”
“Corduroy shorts, short [shorts] … I mean, it’s a vibe. It’s the best vibe. It’s like a Tom Selleck vibe. It’s like [a] ‘70s surfer vibe,” he added, noting that short shorts had a long history in fashion beyond the Magnum PI actor.
He compared it to a Showtime Lakers game, saying he would rather see players dressed like Magic Johnson in short shorts, rather than wearing capris on the court. Therefore, he will also be wearing short shorts.
When questioned about how long he intended to wear small shorts, Pine confidently responded: “Until my legs can’t handle it anymore.”
Throughout his career, Pine has gained attention for his unique and diverse fashion choices. He referred to his style as “jiggy” during a charity event in October. When he’s not seen in short shorts, the Wonder Woman actor continues to push fashion boundaries, such as going barefoot at Milan Fashion Week and sporting long hair that has been compared to Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel Green on Friends by his publicist.
The actor, Esquire, stated that he believed he was looking quite stylish with his long hair, but his publicist compared him to Rachel from the TV show Friends.
“I couldn’t forget what I heard,” he added, mentioning that the comparison negatively affected how he viewed his long hair. “And it happened on my first day in Venice.”
He also mentioned the chaos and media frenzy that surrounded the release of Don’t Worry Darling in Venice, including the incident dubbed “spitgate” where some viewers thought Harry Styles had spit on Chris Pine. Pine’s representative addressed the controversy, calling it a ridiculous and untrue story fueled by an online illusion that led to foolish speculation.
The representative clarified that Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. They emphasized that there is mutual respect between the two men and any insinuation otherwise is a deliberate attempt to fabricate unnecessary conflict.
Pine co-starred with Styles and Florence Pugh in the film directed by Olivia Wilde, which was released in September of last year. In his next project, the actor will voice the villain in Disney’s new animated movie, Wish. The film also features the voices of Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, Evan Peters, Alan Tudyk, and Victor Garber.
