At the 2024 SAG Awards, Anne Hathaway honored her famous movie, The Devil Wears Prada, by wearing a stunning cerulean blue dress.
The actor, aged 41, made an appearance at the event on February 24th, donning a blue off-the-shoulder dress with a deep neckline, a large belt, and a slit. She accessorized with a silver necklace and a matching purse. At the awards ceremony, she presented alongside her fellow cast members from The Devil Wears Prada, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.
During a conversation with Laverne Cox on E! News’ Live From the Red Carpet, Hathaway mentioned that her dress was an older Versace design from 2018. She also alluded to a scene from her film in 2006.
She examined her dress and inquired, “What shade would you describe this as?” Cox answered, “Cerulean,” to which Hathaway agreed.
In the movie The Devil Wears Prada, there is a memorable scene where Andy Sachs, played by Hathaway, realizes that her sweater is not just any shade of blue, but a particular hue called cerulean. This revelation comes from her demanding boss, Miranda Priestly (portrayed by Streep), who scolds Andy for claiming that two blue belts were identical.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, fans have gone on to praise Hathaway’s outfit, with quips about the dress’s colour and references to The Devil Wears Prada.
One person wrote, “Anne Hathaway, you may not be aware that the dress is not simply blue or turquoise or lapis, but rather, it is cerulean.”
“Wow, can you believe Anne Hathaway rocked a cerulean dress with a belt as a tribute to The Devil Wears Prada? Absolutely stunning, no critiques necessary,” another person commented.
“Anne Hathaway’s choice of cerulean exudes the energy of a top-performing theater student,” joked another commenter.
During a conversation with Cox on the red carpet, Hathaway discussed her upcoming reunion with Streep and Emily Blunt at the awards ceremony and the circumstances that led to it.
She expressed her excitement, stating that it was amazing to witness the growth of the movie over the years. Meryl suggested attending the SAG Awards, to which she eagerly agreed.
During the presentation of the award for Best Male Actor in a Comedy, Streep was the initial member of the trio to approach the stage. She mentioned that she had left both her glasses and the envelope containing the winner’s name backstage. Blunt then joined her on stage with the envelope, while Hathaway brought Streep’s glasses.
Streep inquired about the boundary between the character and the actor, to which Blunt made a connection to The Devil Wears Prada. “As we just witnessed, Meryl and Miranda Priestly are almost like identical twins, don’t you think?” Blunt replied.
When Streep expressed disagreement with the statement, Hathaway amusingly replied with a line from Miranda’s character in the movie, stating: “That wasn’t a question.” Streep playfully reacted to Hathaway’s response, while Blunt joked about the amount of time it was taking for the Mama Mia! star to open the envelope.
Blunt specifically quoted Miranda’s famous words: “Please, take your time. You know how that excites me.”
