Rosamund Pike wore a “protective veil” to the Golden Globes after “smashing up” her face in a skiing accident over the Christmas holidays.
The 44-year-old actor from Gone Girl was among the most stylish celebrities at the awards show on Sunday, January 7. She looked stunning in a black vintage Dior dress that featured lace detailing on the bodice and skirt, as well as embellished netting on her chest and arms.
Pike, who received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn,” wore a unique fascinator from Philip Treacy on her head. The fascinator was adorned with lace and featured a gauzy veil.
During a red carpet interview, Pike mentioned that she had to wear the veiled headpiece due to a recent skiing injury.
During an interview with Variety, Pike playfully commented on her attire, describing it as having a “strange funeral feel”. When questioned about whether it was a helmet or hat, she stated that it was more of a “protective veil”.
She mentioned that she had an accident while skiing during Christmas and it was unfortunate timing since she had to attend the Golden Globes on January 7th.
Pike then elaborated that on December 26th, his face was severely injured and he realized he needed to take action.
The British actress stated that her facial injury had healed, but she still needed to wear a protective covering on her face.
She mentioned that she was drawn to the appearance.
Pike was a Golden Globe nominee for her portrayal of Lady Elspeth Catton, the matriarch in Saltburn. However, she did not win, losing to Da’Vine Joy Randolph from The Holdovers.
Pike’s portrayal was a standout element of the controversial movie, which was released on Prime Video during the holiday season, according to numerous viewers.
Elspeth gained a large following due to her reputation for making poorly-timed, straightforward, and sometimes insensitive remarks. Pike recently revealed some surprising lines of dialogue that she and her on-screen son, Jacob Elordi, came up with on the spot, but were ultimately not included in the show.
Pike shared that there was a scene where Jacob and I discussed his ex-girlfriend who took her own life after he broke up with her. Pike mocked, “Naturally, she couldn’t go on living without you, my dear. How could she possibly endure it?”
Pike stated that she usually struggled with improvisation, but with Elspeth, she was able to effortlessly connect and understand her. She felt a strong sense of familiarity with Elspeth’s character.
Saltburn is currently available on Prime Video.
