A singer who had been nominated for a Grammy award was nearly removed from a flight for repeatedly disregarding a member of the flight crew’s request to stop performing.
A video on Instagram features Bobbi Storm, a gospel singer from Detroit, trying to sing her new single to other passengers.
The video starts with Ms. Storm standing up and talking to the flight attendant. She mentions that she is currently “charting” on the billboards, but is then asked to go back to her seat.
Ms. Storm announces that she has recently learned she is nominated for two Grammys and would like to share her latest single, titled ‘We Can’t Forget Him’, with all the passengers on the flight.
According to the Daily Mail, Maverick City Music, a Christian group, has been nominated in the Best Gospel Album category for their album, The Maverick Way, which features her.
In a subsequent video shared on Ms Storm’s verified account, the staff member inquires, “Can you please refrain from making noise?”
I am not having a good time. I am kindly requesting for you to be quiet.
Ms Storm inquires about the possibility of facing imprisonment if she chooses not to comply, and later mentions that she is following the guidance of the Lord.
The flight leader, growing impatient, responds by stating: “I am in charge of this flight and I need you to comply with my directions. My instructions are for you to respond to my question. Can you please remain quiet at the moment?”
Ms. Storm asks the other passengers for their opinion, but she is met with silence and a few uncomfortable glances.
Ultimately, the employee resorts to using intimidation on Ms Storm, stating: “If you are unable to comply with my directions, you will not be permitted to board this flight.”
“If that’s true, then it’s alright,” stated Ms. Storm. “If you’re the one responsible for everything, then it’s okay.”
After the attendant departs, she faces the other way and mentions that she will “sing quietly for those in the back, if that’s acceptable,” before bursting into song.
Several of the comments left on her video were mocking, as users labeled Ms. Storm as “embarrassing and arrogant”, and also claimed she lacked “simple manners”.
In a subsequent video, Ms Storm states that Delta has contacted her and offered an apology. She also expresses her hope that the attendant will learn a valuable lesson on how to treat others.
A representative from Delta stated in a comment to The Independent, “We have reached out to the customer. It is crucial to follow crew instructions for the protection of our passengers and staff.”
