The attorney of the suspect accused of murdering Samantha Woll reported that he has been released from custody by Detroit police without being charged.
According to his lawyer Allison Kriger, the man who allegedly went to Woll’s funeral was apprehended on Tuesday and later released on Friday.
According to Michigan’s state legislation, individuals accused of a crime must be formally charged within 72 hours of being taken into custody.
On October 21st, Woll, a 40-year-old woman, was discovered fatally stabbed in her residence located in the Lafayette Park neighborhood of Detroit.
The passing of the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue was a devastating shock to both the local community and city officials. She was known as a shining example of unity, working to connect the Jewish and Muslim communities.
Ms. Kriger did not promptly reply to a comment request from The Independent. The Detroit police have not yet verified his release and did not respond to a comment request on Saturday morning.
The apprehension of the suspect on November 8th was announced by Detroit Police Chief James White, who deemed it a promising development.
Chief White stated that the apprehension was not the end of their investigation in this matter.
The police have maintained secrecy regarding the suspect’s identity and any other details regarding the ongoing investigation.
The Detroit Free Press reported that the perpetrator was acquainted with Woll and also attended her funeral.
Authorities have stated that they did not have any proof indicating that the homicide was motivated by antisemitic hatred.
