A student from Eton College passed away after collapsing on the school’s sports fields.
Raphaël Pryor, who was in Year 13, was playing the Field Game – the school’s variation of football – when he suddenly fell ill on Saturday.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he was declared deceased on that very same day.
Simon Henderson, headmaster of Eton, stated that Raphaël was an exceptional individual who embraced life with happiness, spreading it generously and significantly.
”
His future was filled with endless possibilities.
During his time at Eton, Raphaël positively impacted his peers, teachers, and caregivers. He also demonstrated exceptional abilities as a House Captain of Games, both in competition and camaraderie with his teammates and opponents.
The Eton community is in great sorrow and disbelief upon hearing this news. We extend our deepest sympathy to Raphaël’s parents, family, and friends as we grieve his untimely passing.
Two days prior to his death, Raphaël was chosen as the house captain through an internal competition, according to the school.
On-site counsellors are now available to offer specialized support for both students and staff.
On Sunday, the Eton College flag was lowered to half-mast in honor of Raphaël, following the traditional tribute given when a member of the royal family passes away.
The faculty notified parents of students at the school in Windsor, Berkshire about the death of Raphaël.
A parent, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared with The Telegraph: “All parents are aware of the incident. He suffered a collapse during a sporting activity and passed away. It was a tragic event.”
The speaker mentioned that her child was living with Raphaël, and that the school housemaster had a tight relationship with him.
“I believe the school has handled it very well, from our point of view,” she commented.
The Eton Field Game is a special version of football created and played exclusively at Eton, with rules dating back to 1847.
