During this summer season, airfare to the Mediterranean may be more affordable from Birmingham airport due to easyJet competing against Ryanair, Jet2, and Tui.
The largest low-cost airline in Britain plans to establish a new hub at West Midlands airport, utilizing three aircraft. Their focus will be on popular summer vacation spots such as the coastal regions of Spain and the islands of Greece.
According to aviation schedule analyst, Sean Moulton, the arrival of easyJet in Birmingham has resulted in increased competition, which is beneficial for the customers.
Currently, the airline operates twelve routes to and from Birmingham, utilizing aircraft from alternate airports.
Sixteen more links will be included in the new base. Out of these, five will connect to important airports in Spain such as Alicante, Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Malaga, and Tenerife. These five airports face competition from both Jet2 and Ryanair, as well as from Tui and Vueling, a Spanish low-cost airline.
Round-trip tickets from Birmingham to Barcelona can be purchased for as low as £26 for various dates in June.
Johan Lundgren, chief executive of easyJet, told The Independent: “Competition is good. It keeps us on our toes when it comes to delivering a great product and great value at fantastic fares.
“The airline industry frequently engages in competitive pricing battles. This is positive as it allows non-affluent individuals the chance to experience travel, rather than being exclusively reserved for the wealthy elite.”

“Our overall network sells a variety of items at an average price below £50.”
“We are thrilled about our introduction in Birmingham.”
An additional four recently added hyperlinks lead to destinations in Greece: Corfu, Heraklion (in Crete), Kos, and Rhodes.
The farthest destination is Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt among the recently-added routes. Turkey’s Antalya and Dalaman rank as the second and third furthest, respectively.
EasyJet is adding new flights to Berlin, Jersey, Larnaca in Cyprus, and Enfidha in Tunisia.
Mr Moulton stated that Berlin, which has been without service for a prolonged period of time, will now have two carriers serving the area. Additionally, competition will be introduced for Jersey and Sharm.
Birmingham will be easyJet’s first new base in the UK for 12 years. In recent years the carrier has closed bases at East Midlands, Newcastle, Stansted and Southend.
Nick Barton, the CEO of the West Midlands airport, stated in an interview with The Independent that the ultimate victor would be the traveller.
“All airlines are unafraid of competition, therefore we can anticipate them competing with each other and improving. This has been the trend in the aviation industry throughout history.”
“We are fully confident in observing the competitive pressure among the airlines.”
