The heir apparent of the British monarchy expressed that his mother instilled in him the belief that “everyone is capable of giving back” as he honored her at the Diana Legacy Award ceremony.
On Thursday evening, William was present at the Science Museum in London for the event celebrating the charity’s 25th anniversary. He delivered a speech during the event.
William’s brother, the Duke of Sussex, will reportedly participate in the ceremony remotely following William’s departure, adding to rumors of a potential estrangement between them.
In the past few months, the two individuals have grown apart and did not reunite when Harry visited King Charles at Clarence House after learning about his cancer diagnosis in the previous month.
Prince William announced to the crowd that he and his spouse, the Princess of Wales, had made it a priority to uphold Diana’s legacy through their efforts.
He stated that tonight’s Legacy Award is especially significant as it celebrates the 25th anniversary of The Diana Award, which was created to honor his mother’s belief in the power of young people to make a difference in the world.
I am aware that it would have been a source of pride for her to witness a charitable organization bearing her name, doing impactful work to empower and improve the lives of youth from all around the world.
He mentioned that his mother instilled in him the belief that everyone who is struggling deserves assistance.
He shared, “She showed me the valuable quality of giving back and the importance of helping those in need.”
Catherine and I have both made it our mission to highlight the importance of that legacy in our work. The Diana Award has been given to 50,000 young individuals in the last 25 years who also share this goal.
I am extremely pleased to witness the realization of my mother’s belief in the inspiring group of young individuals receiving the Legacy Award this evening.
During a previous interview, Harry expressed his love for his family and his gratitude for being able to spend approximately 45 minutes with Charles upon his return to the UK.
In his recent memoir “Spare,” Harry claimed that William forced him into a confrontation over the Duchess of Sussex, resulting in him being pushed into a dog bowl.
There have been allegations that William would taunt Harry about his episodes of panic.
Initially, the conflict between the two royal siblings can be linked to Harry’s early courtship with Meghan. According to reports, Meghan and the Princess of Wales had a disagreement prior to the wedding.
The purpose of the Diana Award is to support the princess’s conviction that youth has the ability to make positive changes in the world. In 2017, both William and Harry awarded the first legacy awards at St James’ Palace.
Dr Tessy Ojo, chief executive of The Diana Award, told The Times: “It’s a privilege to have the support of both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex — particularly as we mark our 25th anniversary year.”
A representative for the prize informed The Telegraph that Harry would play a crucial role in the festivities.
He mentioned that he will virtually talk to the award winners on the awards ceremony evening to commend their achievements.
